Cazenovia, NY — The community of Cazenovia and the extended Onondaga Community College family are mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Ty Freyer, a beloved son, teammate, and friend, who passed away unexpectedly.
Tyler “Ty” Freyer was a freshman at Onondaga Community College and a proud member of the Lazers Men’s Lacrosse Team, where he wore jersey #2. A gifted athlete and passionate competitor, Ty was known not only for his talent on the field but for his leadership, work ethic, and deep love of the game. His passing has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him.
Born and raised in Cazenovia, New York, Ty was a 2024 graduate of Cazenovia High School, where he was a standout lacrosse player and an all-around student-athlete. Friends and coaches recall his intensity in competition, balanced by a respectful, grounded demeanor off the field. His teammates saw him as a brother—always dependable, always willing to lift others up.
At Onondaga, Ty was just beginning what promised to be a bright collegiate career. With aspirations to take his lacrosse journey even further, he had already made a mark on campus with his discipline and team-first attitude. Coaches describe him as “a quiet leader,” someone who showed up early, stayed late, and never stopped encouraging others.
Off the field, Ty was a loyal friend, a loving son, and someone who deeply valued family. Known for his easy smile, quick wit, and thoughtful nature, Ty was the kind of person who made others feel seen and heard. Whether he was joking with teammates, studying with classmates, or volunteering in the community, he brought sincerity and warmth to everything he did.
Tributes have poured in across social media from friends, coaches, and fellow athletes. Many describe Ty as someone who made a lasting impression in the short time he spent with them—a reminder of the deep impact one life can have.
Ty is survived by his loving parents, siblings, extended family, teammates, coaches, and countless friends whose lives were brightened by his presence. His memory will live on in every game played, every laugh shared, and every young athlete he inspired simply by being himself.
